A role model: ShiholiSheqi
MrsShiholisheqi belongs to sumi community of Nagaland. She was born on 15th December 1978.She is married and has four children, one female and three male. She studied up to class 9 only as she was from poor family background and her parents couldn’t effort her further studies. She was a small farmer and was struggling with her life for meeting the financial expenses of her family.As she had a small farm the produce in her farm was not sufficient enough to meet the consumption needs of her family.Every day was a struggle for her to provide a decent meal for her family.
She joined SHG in the year 2015. The name of her SHG is Boto SHG. She started saving Rs 50 in her group along with the rest of the SHG members. After joining SHG her life changed completely. She is the present secretary of her group and now also the President of akikili VLO in her village. She has taken 3 times loan in her group. Firstly she took loan for consumption and after that she took loan to open a petty shop at pughoboto town. Now she is running a petty shop.
After joining SHG her morale boosted and she not only helped herself but also helped in forming two more SHG in her village. She is an active member in her village. She was send to Exposure trip to Meghalaya by NSRLM on 22nd to 22th January 2018. After her exposure tour she became aware of many agriculture activity and also various governmental schemes available for farmers. She helped members of 10 SHG from her village in getting kholar (beans), potato and pea seeds free of cost for sowing.
The department of agriculture after seeing her active involvement in farming has helped her financially by providing Rs 10,000 in 2017 and Rs 12,000 in 2018 and also taken her paddy field as their demonstration field.
With her active participation in farming field she is not only helping herself in coming out of poverty but also helping other women also in overcoming poverty. She is the role model for all the other women in her village. The SHG has help her in increase her income from her farming activity and also helped her with take up new livelihood activity. She is now earning with dignity and also is able to send her children to school for studies. Joining the SHG has become a boon to her and also many other women in her village
